March 28th, 2007

Does all the media coverage about dirty restaurants and grocery stores scare you? How about the deadly dog food? Well, I am not an alarmist but we all should be concerned about where we dine, what we eat and keeping our families  - including your pets - safe.

My guest today, Safety Expert, Debra Hotzman, will tell us what we can do to keep our families from getting sick and staying safe. Debra is the author of The Safe Baby: A-Do-It-Yourself Guide to Home Safety, which you can purchase at www.thesafetyexpert.com.

So join me and listen to The Top Ten Must-Know Grocery Shopping Tips, what you need to know before you go to another restaurant which you can read about in Debra’s article, Is Your Favorite Restaurant Hiding A Dirty Little Secret? (Updated) and other tips on keeping our kids safe at Easter (yes there are things to know!) and other tips.

Great Tip from Debra: Go to http://www.recalls.org/ to get all the latest recalls around the world.

Why we must EMBRACE DIVERSE SCHOOLS

March 21st, 2007

Are you worried about the changing demograhics in your child’s school? Do you think it is too diverse and that you should move and find a school that is exactly like your family? Well, many of us do but my guest today Eileen Kugler, says that we should Embrace Diverse Schools and that a mix of races and ethnicities can provide opportunites for our children to grow and be better prepared for the real world.

Join me today and listen to what Ms. Kugler, author of Debunking the Middle-Class Myth: Why Diverse Schools are Good for All kIds, (www.embracediverseschools.com) has to say. I am very interested in this subject and all parents should be as well. It is a changing world and we should learn how to make it work for all our kids.

Call in (845-651-1110) or email me with any questions and don’t forget to listen and to make good choices ~

Longer School Day?

March 14th, 2007

What do you think about a longer school day for our kids? Good idea or bad idea? Make sense to you? Or do you think it should never happen?
Regardless of how you feel right now, you may change your mind when you hear what my guest Elena Silva, a senior policy analyst from Education Sector (www.educationsector.org), a non-profit Washington-based think tank, has to say about her report Rethinking the Way Schools Use Time. Ms. Silva has sorted out the evidence of what a longer school day means to children, parents and society. So listen in today and give me your opinions on what you think about the way our school system uses time and what effective changes should - or should not - be made.

~ I look forward to having you join me today on am 1110 WTBQ ~ And Don’t Forget to Make Good Choices ~

An Invitation from The Times Herald-Record

March 13th, 2007
An hour of your time could save you a lifetime of heartache. How many more teens must die on our local highways before we say enough is enough?

At the Times Herald-Record, we believe the answer is “Not One More.”

Hear firsthand from authorities and families about their gut-wrenching experiences dealing with the aftermath of crashes involving teen drivers. Hear also expert advice about what parents and teens can do to prevent future tragedies. Our goal is to educate parents and their sons and daughters about the dangers teens face when they get behind the wheel: The distractions of other teen passengers, speeding, inexperience, lack of sleep.

We invite parents and teens to join us at 7 p.m., Tues., March 27 at Monroe-Woodbury High School Auditorium for a discussion about how, as a community, we can keep our teens safe on the road.

Together, we can fight this epidemic of death and declare:
NOT ONE MORE!

March is Colorectal Awareness Month

March 7th, 2007

Hope you had a chance to listen to the information from www.Preventcancer.org about early screening for colorectal cancer. Very helpful information and worth doing. Yes, I know it is uncomfortable (a colonoscopy)- buy do it- it can save your life! It was also great to learn about the HPV virus and the new vaccine Gardasil. With all the controversy surrounding this new vaccine, which is meant for girls ages 11 and 12, it was refreshing to hear (more…)
