From College to Career - Helping 20-somethings move on
Do you have a 20-something living at home with you? Are you not quite sure how this happened and are wondering what - if anything - you should do about it? Well you are not alone. Sixty percent of 20-25 year-olds live at home and thiry percent of those up to 30 do as well. This is a new trend that has some worried, but there are ways you can get them moving in life.
Jim Fay from Love and Logic (www.loveandlogic.com) stressed love, empathy and a good dose of realism to push them along. Take a look at the website sign up for a helpful hints about raising responsible kids -at all ages. Good stuff on the site - take a look and give them a call.
Lindsey Pollak author of Getting from College to Career (http://www.gettingfromcollegetocareer.com/) really had quite a lot of good tips about how to get moving and land a good job. I highly recommend her book. It is full of insightful information that is helpful to anyone looking for a new position (especially since we change careers/jobs 9-12 times), but targeted to those recently out of school. Don’t just sit around - movement is key. Just one activity a day toward your job/career search will motivate you better than another video game.
Go to the website (above) and get a copy of her book, for you or your 20-something sitting at home wondering how to go about getting that life you are ready for. Opportunities are definitely out there, but you need to know how to get them - and good luck!
don’t forget to make good choices!
