Sewing is pretty easy when you have the right materials and knowledge, and this book gives you step by step instructions. Then, once you feel you understand the basics, there are ten patterns that come with the book to help you start/make your first project. S.E.W. is a terrific book and a great gift, especially for tweens, since sewing is poised to be the next big craft craze.
