Universal Health Care

April 23rd, 2008

Did you know that a nation’s level of happiness is most assoicated with their level of health care? Universal health care may seem like a far off concept to Americans, but is a basic fact of life in every other industrialized country. It is time we had it here. As a nation we spend more than other countries and get less. We have groundbreaking medical technology and yet 47 million Americans are uninsured and many others go bankrupt because of health care costs. We have a health care crisis and an unhappy country.

My guest today Dr. Ellen R. Shaffer from Center for Policy Analysis (www.centerforpolicyanalysis.org) believes that we can build a change towards universal affordable quality health care and voters can support that change. As a woman I find it especially important that we all get the health care we need. Dr. Shaffer writes and lectures extensively on access to health care, women’s health and globalization. She served as senior health policy advisor to U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone from 1992 to 1995 and  is on the executive board of the American Public Health Association.

Listen in today and learn what you need to know about universal health care and making it a reality, so you can make important choices for you, your family and our country ~

PAX Real Solutions to Gun Violence

April 16th, 2008

Today is the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings. A sad memory for this country and a tragic one for the families who lost loved ones and those who were injured. An unbearable sadness. But why do things like this keep happening and what can we do about it? I have had many experts on this topic on to discuss this and one of them is Daniel Gross who is the co-founder of PAX, Real Solutions to Gun Violence (www.paxusa.org) and creator of SPEAK UP a terrific school violence prevention program that includes 1-866-SPEAK-UP,  a free national hotline for students to call anonymously to report weapon threats. Daniel is going to talk that and about the 10 warning signs of school shootings and what we as parents, students and community members should know and look for. Listen in today and learn what propels this violence and how to stop it before it happens again.

Also in the later part of the hour Lisa Ann from SpiritQuest (spiritquesthealingcenter.com) will be joining me to talk about the spiritual side of death and tragedy what we need to know. She is always full of warm and useful advice. So join me today and learn about how you and your family can make good choices.

Well, whether you love them as I do or aspire to be one (how cool is that!), listen in today when I talk to The Mystery Writers of America (www.mysterywriters.org).
