One of my favorite authors Annie Fox (www.heyterra.com) has a new book out in her Middle School Confidential Series (book 3), titled, What’s up with My Family?

This is a fabulous book for kids chock full of helpful and really instructive information. This book addresses one of the most important aspects of kid’s life in middle school - dealing with growing up and their family. If you remember, in the KidsHealth survey they found that the most important issue to kids was their family. Annie Fox’s new book answers so many questions for kids and talks about what matters most to them: “I am not a Kid Anymore!, Struggling with Siblings, Moods and Attitudes,Things are changing around here” are some of the chapters, which are insightful. She also has quizzes for kids to analyze how they really feel - a very useful tool!

This is an essential book for kids in the middle school stage of growing up - not a kid and not a full teen either. I love this book and I can’t wait to talk to Annie about all that is in it, especially if you have a middle schooler or a child soon to be one, so you can make good choices ~

If a disease runs in your family, would you like to know whether or not it has passed down to you? Some of us would; others would not. I think I fall into the latter category - well, at least I thought I did until I read Gary Reiswig’s new book, The Thousand Mile Stare: One Family’s Journey through the Struggle and Science of Alzheimer’s. (www.thethousandmilestare.com)

Mr. Reiswig’s book takes you through the journey of his family where for many years they “kept the information about forgetful grandparents, dotty parents, loopy aunts and childish uncles to ourselves.” But there was no mistaking that there was a problem in this family and once the DNA was exposed, it opened the family secrets to the world.

This is a book about Alzheimer’s. On today’s show Mr. Reiswig explains the warning signs of Alzheimer’s, what the new treatments are and when to get genetic testing. I now think I would like to know if I had a disease looming in my future. As scary as it is, by knowing I can take advantage of early cures and possibly change my destiny. So listen in today at 1:00 so you can learn how to always make good choices ~

A subject many of us never want, or luckily ever need, to think about is kids killing themselves. However it happens and teen suicide is on the rise being the third cause of death in 15-24-year-olds. But what is even more disturbing than that is kid suicide - young elementary school kids. Suicide is the sixth leading cause of death for 5-14-year-olds. Surprising and very alarming statistics.

Recently a 9-year-old boy, a fourth grader, hung himself in his elementary school bathroom. How could this happen and why? Kids are so happy and when they are not can’t they get help at home and school? Why is this happening now and what should we know about it?

Joining me today is Dr. Wendy Walsh (www.wendylwalsh.com) pyschological expert from Momlogic.com. I recently saw her on CNN talking about this and I want you to hear what she has to say today at 1:00 so you and your family can always make good choices ~
