STRESSED-OUT GIRLS: Helping Them Thrive in the Age of Pressure
Great show with guest author, Dr. Roni Cohen-Sandler, talking about her new book Stressed-Out Girls: Helping them Thrive in the Age of Pressure.
It is a well-researched book that is of enourmous help for parents and educators. Talking with  Dr. Cohen-Sandler was informative and enjoyable.  Many of our girls are stressed out. There is a lot of pressure on them in this culture they are growing up in. Reading this book will help you understand how girls feel about the issues in their life, the huge pressure to achieve and look good and how they handle it. You will also learn how to recognize when something is really wrong (as opposed to just moodiness) so you can step in and find help.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Don’t put added pressure on them by demanding they overachieve. They don’t need to be perfect.
- Do applaud them for what they accomplish. They need to know we are proud of them.
- Build on their natural talents and inner strengths by allowing them to define what those might be.
- They may not want to talk with you, but be patient. Eventually what is on their mind will come out.
- They need us. Be involved, be available  - But don’t hover!
- Remember that they are not us and we can’t live through them. They have to make their own mistakes and we can’t confuse our fears, failures and accomplishments with theirs.
To get a copy of her book go to any bookstore or to her website www.ronicohensandler.com and order it there.
It is a must read for parents of all girls - especially ages 10 and up. Great book and Thanks to Dr. Roni Cohen-Sandler for joining me and sharing her work with all of us. And don’t forget to help your children to
